CaloScan AI (“the App”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and handle information when you use our application.
1. Information We Collect
a) Camera Access The App uses your device’s camera solely for scanning food items and barcodes in order to analyze nutritional and calorie content.
Photos are processed for food recognition purposes.
Images are not used for user identification.
b) Image Uploads You may optionally upload images from your device’s library.
Uploaded images are used only for food analysis.
Images are processed temporarily and are not retained longer than necessary for the analysis.
c) Health & Fitness Data (HealthKit / Health Connect) If you grant permission, the App may read fitness data (specifically step count and active energy) from Apple HealthKit (iOS) or Health Connect (Android).
Purpose: This data is used solely to calculate and display your daily calories burned within the app.
Privacy: The use of information received from Health Connect/HealthKit will adhere to the respective permissions policies, including the Limited Use requirements.
Restriction: We do not use Health/Fitness data for advertising, marketing, or use-based data mining purposes. We do not sell this data to third parties.
d) Device Identifiers & Usage Data (Advertising) The App uses third-party advertising services (Google AdMob) to display ads. These services may collect and use:
Device Identifiers (such as Android Advertising ID or iOS IDFA).
Usage Data (app interactions, crash logs).
Approximate location data. This data is used to provide personalized or non-personalized advertising and to analyze ad performance.
e) Notifications The App may request permission to send notifications related to:
Daily calorie tracking reminders
Activity or goal updates Notifications are optional and can be disabled at any time.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use collected data to:
Provide calorie and nutrition tracking features.
Improve food recognition accuracy.
Display step-based calorie estimates.
Display Advertising: To keep the app free, we display third-party advertisements via Google AdMob.
3. Data Storage & Security
a) App Tracking Transparency (iOS) On iOS devices, we request your permission to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites.
If you allow tracking: Google AdMob will deliver personalized ads relevant to your interests.
If you decline tracking: You will still see ads, but they may be less relevant (non-personalized).
b) Google AdMob

4. Data Sharing
Service Providers: We may share data with trusted third-party service providers (such as AI processing engines for food recognition and Google AdMob for advertising) solely to operate the App's core functionality.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose data if required by law.
No Sale of Personal Data: Except for the advertising identifiers mentioned above, we do not sell your personal photos or health data to third parties.
5. User Control
You are in full control of your data:
Permissions: Camera, Photo Library, Health data, and Tracking permissions can be revoked at any time in your device settings.
Ad Preferences: You can manage your ad preferences through your device settings (Privacy > Tracking on iOS; Google settings on Android).
Account Deletion: If you wish to delete your account and associated data, you may do so within the App settings or by contacting us.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected within the App or on the app listing.
